The Colorado Juvenile Parole Board (JPB) is seeking applications to fill open citizen seats starting in October 2021. Members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. Additional information regarding the board can be found here

JPB is a nine-member, Type 1 board placed in the Office of Children, Youth and Families within the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS). The Board has independent authority to make parole decisions for all juvenile delinquents adjudicated to CDHS’s Division of Youth Services, and is authorized by C.R.S 19-2-206 and 19-207. The mission of the JPB is to promote public safety by using statutory criteria in the best interest of the juvenile and victim when reintegrating the juvenile into the community. Parole hearings are held six days per month and board meetings are held once a month virtually or in Denver. Citizen members are paid $150 for a full day or $75 for a half day and are reimbursed for actual expenses incurred, such as mileage, hotel, and per diem when conducting board business. Citizen members may not be an employee of the State of Colorado.

Primary board member responsibilities entail approximately 25 to 30 hours a month of board business, including:

  • Reviewing youth files prior to parole hearings;
  • Participating in one-to-two parole hearings per month; and
  • Attending monthly statutorily required board meetings.

CDHS values broad, diverse representation on its boards and commissions to ensure adequate representation of stakeholders and the public. Therefore, we are requesting your assistance in distributing this notice to interested and qualified individuals in your networks. If you or someone you know is interested in serving the State of Colorado in this capacity, please submit, or encourage them to submit, an application.

To apply for a seat on the Juvenile Parole Board, complete the Governor’s Office of Boards and Commissions Application and submit a current resume.

The application deadline is Aug. 20. For questions, please contact Lee Ann Brabec, JPB administrator, at leeann.brabec@state.co.us or 303.866.5977.
